News & Events Autumn 2008

Inspired by WILD FOOD and WILD PLANTS

In the harvest month of September the Findhorn Foundation Community hosted some workshops of American herbalist Susan Weed and later on Frank Cook, the herbalist from Schumacher College. Frank took us on some fascinating ‘weed walks’ as well as extolling the virtues of fermentation, and offering insights into the abundance of Nature. As participant Dan Puplett (co-worker of Trees for Life) said afterwards: “Frank is a very inspiring, authentic teacher with a deep connection to Nature. He emphasized how important it is for everyone to have a deeper understanding of wild foods, medicines etc, empowering us at a time when we must inevitably move towards a more local and self-reliant scale.“ A Wild-Life-Network group was set up in Findhorn to exchange skills and knowledge.......... Beach coomber Adriana started her seaweed-research!

Findhorn Garden Story Book

The updated version of the book

'The FINDHORN GARDEN STORY"

is out, now in English and in French 'Les Jardins de Findhorn' (and we hope other languages will follow soon). The book tells the story of the garden from teh perspective of the founders of the Findhorn Foundation Community in Findhorn in the north of Scotland, and is enriched with more than 120 colour photographs of Findhorn photographer Adriana Sjan Bijman. Read, see more or buy directly from the Findhorn Press.

'The Observer Effect'

This exhibition and conference exploring the role of the captured image took place in the Moray Art Centre in Findhorn at the end of
August. For the first time local dancer Ruby Worth and photographer Adriana Sjan Bijman worked together here in creating a dance-photo performance.

Poetry & the Scottish weather

Artwork Poetry

This is the proof. The summer of 2008 has been fabulous at the Findhorn coast. Others might think differently about it, but we gardeners say: "There is no such thing as bad weather, there is only bad clothing." But not on that particular day in Lossiemouth.

The poem is about something else though. It is part of a series texts and images with the theme of the coast. (©Adriana Sjan Bijman)
